This week’s main assignment was to complete my first research assessment which would soon become a weekly assignment to complete. Since this school week was shortened, I was given two class periods to start this assignment. However, I spent one class period writing and publishing my first blog, so I started research sources to write my assessment about the next class period. During that class period, I discovered an article I wanted to read through on the website PubMed which is a new database I have learned about. This database is perfect for me in my topic because it focuses on medical articles that are peer reviewed and credible. After briefly reading the article, I used a website named Kami to analyze and annotate the article for sections that I found important. In school, I used a school computer since I do not currently have a device to bring to school. Little did I realize that this would cause a big mistake on my part to occur in the near future. I had planned to write my assessment during the Friday I had off since I already had the article fully annotated and all other preparations done. However, when I woke up on Friday to finish the assessment due that night, I discovered that I could not access my annotated article on the website Kami which is a website I had a lot of experience on from virtual school. It came to my attention that since I saved the file on the school computer and annotated from that file rather than saving the article on Google Drive it couldn’t be accessed on a different computer. I had to start over and find a new article because I couldn’t find my previous article and did not have the name of the article noted. I had to work harder to finish the assessment on time, but thankfully I finished right before the deadline and there were no other hiccups. Overall, I learned a valuable lesson about technology and how careful I need to be. Fortunately, I had Friday off from school to focus on the assessment, but I won’t have this type of luck every time. After I get a new device, I will start bringing my own technology, so everything will be stored in the same place. Until then, I will take extra precautions to make sure this doesn’t happen again. I hope next week I will be able to complete the assessment early on with no technological conflicts.
