During the first couple weeks of school, I have already practiced new skills and learned important information that I need to make sure I retain. Throughout all my assignments, I was pushed to improve my time management skills by balancing my different assignments and finishing them between class time and home time. Furthermore, I learned how to properly format and build a website with the help of Wix which will help me grow my digital portfolio for professionals to look at. However, I had a difficult time with my first speech which was centered around me. While writing the speech was an easy feat for me to accomplish, presenting the information without looking down at the script was hard for me because I got nervous in front of the class and forgot everything I memorized. I understand now that memorizing the speech and repeating it to myself is not enough for presentations. I now need to practice presenting my speech in front of people before the actual big presentation to get used to speaking in front of people about myself and what I researched. This will be an important asset for me to have in the professional world because in the future, I will have to be able to present my findings to other people clearly to be successful. Another significant asset I learned is about remembering names and how to incorporate them into conversations. In the professional world, learning and remembering someone’s name is of the utmost importance because it shows respect and makes the person feel appreciated. Also, integrating names in conversations after they introduce themselves will help remember the name as well as let the other person know the effort put into learning their name. In the end, I learned more general skills that could be used in any career which makes me want to focus on learning more about my specific career field next.
